Entrepreneurship
The Mayfield Fellows Program is a UC Berkeley fellowship sponsored in part by the Mayfield. The fellowship provides entrepreneurial experience opportunities to business-minded College of Engineering graduate students and technical MBA students through strategic marketing internships at portfolio start-up companies. I spent my 2005 fellowship learning from the executive team at Dust Networks. The 2005 class also visited China and Japan to gain first-hand exposure to entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities Asia. A social blog from that trip is here.
The Management of Technology Program at UC Berkeley is an interdisciplinary program between the Haas School of Business, the College of Engineering, and the School of Information Science. I completed the program in 2003 with focus on high-tech product development including the courses: High-tech Product Development, Wireless Communications, and Opportunity Recognition.
Vertex is the engineering entrepreneurship club at UC Berkeley, and now part of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. Founded in 2001, Vertex fosters entrepreneurship among the engineering student body through seminars, speaker events, and competitions like the Innovator’s Challenge, a technology entrepreneurship contest between UC Berkeley and Stanford. In 2001, I participated in the inaugural Innovator’s Challenge event with the Summit Project. I then chaired the second annual Innovator’s Challenge in 2002/2003 and subsequently lead Vertex in 2003/2004.
