Production

These machines are expensive to design and build and may not be capable of making any other products. Therfore, for economic considerations, such machines must be operated for considerable periods of time and to make products in very large quantities.

Batch Size (total number of parts):
Low: 10,000 - 100,000
Just Right: 100,000 - 10,000,000
High: 10,000,000 - 100,000,000

Ideally, work stations perform the operation(s) simultaneously on separate workpieces with the number of parts equal to the number of stations. Each time the machine cycles, a part is completed.

Usual Production Rate: 11-100 parts per hour
Usual Setup Time: Months

Setup Cost: Very High
Per Part Cost: Low
