If a part or product
is highly standardized and will be manufactured in large quantities,
a machine, or a collection of machines, that will produce the parts
with a minimum of skilled labor can be developed.
In general, a variety
of individual processes or stations are connected with a mechanical
system to convey the workpiece.
Those processes can include:
machining, drilling, boring, turning, grinding, folding, broaching,
reaming, boring, lapping, honing, etc.
oriented layout: more efficient than the job shop but builds
in large lots and is not flexible.
